A growing and competitive organisation depends on the vitality and energy of its employees. Taking this to heart, SingTel is committed to providing a safe and healthy work environment conducive to employee wellness and work-life integration.

We encourage staff to take control of their health. Gymnasiums are available at SingTel, NCS and Optus premises while healthier food is offered at all staff cafeterias. SingTel and NCS offer free health screenings to staff, as well as disease management programmes. Talks and programmes around various health and wellness themes are conducted on a regular basis to create greater awareness and encourage staff to lead healthy lifestyles. In Australia, our annual Health Expos at Optus host a range of talks, health screenings and programmes on health management for staff. 

Various sporting and recreational activities are also organised to cater to diverse interests, such as fitness classes and mass participation in national sporting events. In Singapore, employees participate in Fitness at Work, where a fitness instructor conducts scheduled mass workout sessions, as well as other competitive and non-competitive sport and fun events.

The Group offers family-friendly policies such as flexible work schedules, telecommuting and various forms of family leave arrangements. All employees and their immediate family members have access to professional counselling services on work-life issues through Employee Assistance Programmes run by external consultants.

Over the year, SingTel, NCS and Optus collaborated to develop the Group Health, Safety and Environment policy and framework. 

For occupational health and safety, SingTel ensures that at least one employee is trained on each floor of its buildings to be a Health Manager. We conduct regular fire evacuation drills and dry runs for contingencies and health emergencies such as avian flu.

The management of SingTel and the Union of Telecoms Employees of Singapore (UTES) share a joint belief in the importance of good labour management relations. We actively involve the Union in all matters concerning our employees. Our collective agreements with UTES cover more than 4,000 bargainable employees at SingTel and NCS combined.

At Optus, about 6,800 staff members are covered by the Employment Partnership Agreement (EPA). The EPA, a feature of the Optus culture since 1994, is a collective agreement made directly between Optus and employees, and reflects our philosophy of dealing directly with our people. The EPA was renewed in late 2009 for another three years.
