1. What is Broadband on Mobile and Priority Pass?
    It is a mobile broadband service that allows you to enjoy seamless Internet access while on-the-go. You can surf, email, stream music and download files. With Priority Pass on the Priority 7.2 and Premium 21 plan, you can enjoy priority access on your data traffic when the network is crowded, thus enabling smoother streaming and downloads.
  2. How can I be assured that I will enjoy typical speed range when I sign up for the 3G plan?
    It's a typical range of download speeds that you can experience 80% of the time, over a 24-hour period at various locations around Singapore, including major 3G hotspots.
    The speed range may vary between users and is subject to device used, hardware and software limitation, network coverage/traffic, distance between user and base station, nature of built-up area, source of website and other external factors.
  3. How does SingTel derive the typical download speed range for the individual BroadBand on Mobile 3G data price plan?
    Measurements were carried out using the following mobile broadband USB dongle and a Microsoft Windows XP notebook installed with an FTP client and DU Meter software application for measuring throughput.

    Price Plan USB Dongle Theoretical Speed Typical Download Speed Range
    (Stationary or On-The-Move)
    Classic 3.6 Huawei E173 3.6Mbps 0.8Mbps - 2.1Mbps
    Priority 7.2 Huawei E173 7.2Mbps 1.4Mbps - 3.7Mbps
    Premium 21 Huawei E367 21Mbps 1.7Mbps - 4.8Mbps

    The FTP tests were carried out using a server in Singapore and a server in Palo Alto. The test used a file of approximately 500MB. The throughput was based on the average transfer rate clocked by the DU Meter application. The typical throughput ranges were computed based on 80% of the data points to illustrate that the customers would experience these speed ranges at 80% of the time over a 24-hour period. There was a total of 200 data points collected for each price plan for both stationary and on-the-move tests. The tests are conducted between October to December 2012. The above measurement will be carried out and updated on quarterly basis.

    1. Stationary Tests

      Stationary tests were carried out during off-peak hours at various 3G hotspots in Singapore, namely:

      North: Woodlands

      East: Tampines
      West: Jurong

      The download speed range may vary between users and is subject to device used, hardware and software limitation, network coverage/traffic, distance between user and base station, nature of built-up area, source of website and other external factors.

    Data conversion: 1GB = 1,024MB, 1MB = 1,024KB

    Data Usage Per Data Session
    (After Local Data Bundle)
    Excess Charge (before GST)
    0 to 1,024KB $0.01 per 2KB (min. of $0.03/session)
    1,024KB to 1GB $5.00 per GB
    Any part of exceeding GB $0.01 per 2KB cap at $5.00 per GB
    Example 1
    1.02GB = 1GB and 20,972KB

    1GB = $5.00
    20,972KB = $5.00
    Total = $10.00
    Example 2
     800KB

    800KB x $0.01/2 KB = $4.00
